Developmental Editing
A developmental edit hones in on what holds your manuscript together, the overall structure and organization. For nonfiction or educational work, this means an intense eye toward thesis-claim agreement and logical idea flow. For fictional authors, the focus gears toward overall plot and character development. It's a birds-eye view of your work. There's less substantive editing and more consulting/commenting.
Copyediting
I'll work with you to make sure your copy is as tight as possible. A copyedit entails a thorough, line-by-line edit that assesses syntax, tone, grammar, sentence/paragraph structure, and overall flow. It won't substantively change the meaning of your writing, but it will ensure excellent readability. I've worked with corporate, SEO-focused clients, fiction authors, dissertation students, and more.
Proofreading
This is a quicker, final scan to ensure all small errors are corrected, including spelling/punctuation errors, spacing problems, indentation issues, and/or typeface inconsistencies. Consider it a spellcheck, if spellcheck was sentient and worked well.
Essay Consulting/Editing
If you're a high school or college student in need of some assistance, please let me know! I truly love helping students become better writers.
